Normandy June 6th, 1944

It was not a slam dunk. The D-Day landing hung in the balance for that first day. If the Allies had been pushed off the beaches the outcome of the war would have been different.

It's not clear that the Allies could have or would have tried again. Britain committed what remained of her armies. All the available material was used. It would have taken another year to rebuild and train a new force. Germany would have had more time to develop the jet, rockets, and other weapons.

The Soviet Union was pressing into Germany from the east. It is possible they would have overrun all of Europe and created a series of puppet states similar to the ones created in Eastern Europe after the war.

It is possible we would have to negotiate an armistice.

It did not happen that way. In spite of the mistakes, the casualties, and the fog of war, the landing was successful. Young boys, led by young men, got out of landing craft and advanced across contested beaches to secure enough of the French coast that they could not be thrown off. Their actions deserve to be remembered as long there is a United States of America.

Drinks to Go?? This Should End Well

Looks like Illinois has passed a law to help bars stay in business.  Now you can buy drinks to go.  I can just see a parking lot full of cars and everyone driving them staggering to the door of the bar for last call. Or possibly they all start honking their horns to the tune of Macarena.

Michigan Supreme Court vacates order telling Owosso barber to close

I had my hair cut last week by Elaine down at Mikes Country Clippers.  She does a good job.

Who the hell do those assholes in Michigan think they are telling this barber he can't cut hair because of this covid crap?

Yet governor bitch up there says protestors are okay even though they are only inches apart from  each other.

Rosenstein responded to the senator, reiterating his previous response: "Yes, I do not believe that the president committed a crime that warrants prosecution. And that's the issue that we review as prosecutors."

Oh My God Pass Me the Smelling Salts!!

Aparty at the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri, one that made international headlines a week ago due to photos showing a densely packed pool filled with carefree partygoers apparently unconcerned about COVID-19, has yet to result in a breakout of the virus, according to the state's top health official.
Photographs of the event – in which attendees appeared to flout essentially every "social distancing" rule promulgated by health authorities over the last several months – were circulated around the globe, with international newspapers such as the Guardian reporting that the pool-partiers "apparently forgot that Covid-19 existed."
St. Louis County officials were so alarmed by the party that they issued a travel advisory over it, saying the event was "an international example of bad judgment."
Yet concerns over the party's possibly starting a COVID-19 outbreak appear to have been largely unfounded.
One individual at that party allegedly tested positive for the disease after attending it. Asked on Monday at a press conference whether there "have been any other cases of COVID-19 connected to the Lake of the Ozark case of the individual who tested positive," Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Director Randall Williams said, "not that I'm aware of."
The party happened over Memorial Day weekend, May 23-24. The CDC says COVID-19 symptoms can appear 2-14 days after being infected by the virus.
Though Williams indicated on Monday that the party did not result in an outbreak of coronavirus, the event was still being touted as a scandal several days later.
On Thursday, Connecticut Rep. Rosa DeLauro – brandishing a photograph of the event – said in a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing that the site of the large crowd of partygoers was "unbelievable."
"Look at this. Look at these folks," she said, waving the picture.

This Russia Crap Keeps Getting Stinkier and Stinkier

Looks like Rod Rosenstein is trying to throw everybody and their aunts and uncles under the bus about this russia hoax investigation crap.

He said he wouldn't have signed the fisa warrant if the fbi had only told him the truth.

He said he never wanted to secretly recort the president.

He said this, he said that. Screw him and all the rest of them.

From Diogenes Middle Finger

I am not an eloquent person, so as I peruse the internet I frequently look for paragraphs of eloquence so I can share them with you.

I don't know if this is eloquent or not, but it is certainly written much better than I can do, so here we go:
As I write, looting continues and police are being violently attacked. Meanwhile, law enforcement leaders are kneeling with protesters to show their “solidarity”. Winston Churchill’s quip comes to mind: “Each one hopes that if he feeds the crocodile enough it will eat him last.”

This was taken from Diogenes Middle Finger.

Here is a link to the article itself.

That quote from Churchill pretty much sums up how all the democrats are acting right now, and maybe even some of the rinos. All of the political class right now are trying to be so politically correct with this george floyd crap, as to be almost beyond belief. I don't think any fiction writer anywhere could make this story any more full of crap than it already is.

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SHIT????

Pest Company

I have an issue with my pest control company.  I cancelled my service.  I got an invoice today for $69.00 for service they said they performed last Friday. They supposedly did my front yard, but not my backyard because the side gate was closed.

Well no kiddin it was closed, because we weren't home.  They normally call me the day before service and let me know, but not this time.  My wife had bloodwork last Friday morning, then chemotherapy, so we were gone until about 2pm.

In addition to that, the last 2 services have not been up to my expectations.  The techs that were doing it before did a much better job. The kid they started having doing it, just seems to wander around. I thought I was paying to have the whole yard sprayed, but all they were doing was the perimiter of my house.

The owner of the company called and asked me how can we work this out. I told him I was too pissed off to work anything out.

Anyway, I will look for another company.  I was doing it myself before, but because I was lazy it only got done about once per year, if I was lucky.

Oh well.

Google is Sued

Good morning.  How is everyone this morning?

My email contained one from linked in this morning touting an article about google being sued for collecting data on you while in incognito mode.

Here is the text of the short article:

Google sued over 'private' browsing

Updated 7 hours ago
Google has been sued in a proposed class-action lawsuit that alleges it violated wiretap laws by collecting information about user behavior on the internet without permission while users were in "private browsing," or incognito mode. The lawsuit, which was filed in the federal court in San Jose, California, is seeking at least $5 billion from Google and owner Alphabet for tracking and collecting browsing history even where users tried to maintain their privacy. Google denies this is illegal and maintains that it is clear about the data it collects.

This is a comment from Linkedin on this:

I guess it's not much of a surprise that Google is sued for tracking online behaviour even when browsing incognito.

The plaintiff asks for compensation at least 5 000 dollars per user and the number of affected could contain millions of Google users. Will be following with interest how the numbers evolve.

Meanwhile, Test Achat (BE) estimates that individual complainants could get 200 euros in a damages suit against Facebook and SGP Law (UK) says individuals affected can get 2 000 pounds or more in a law suit against British Airways. Remains to be see which one gets higher for the company the GDPR administrative fines or individual damages.
--
"While users may view private browsing as a safe haven from watchful eyes, computer security researchers have long raised concern that Google and rivals might augment user profiles by tracking people’s identities across different browsing modes, combining data from private and ordinary internet surfing."

Lockney producer recognized among High Cotton award winners

I grew up in Lockney, Texas. North of Lubbock about 60 miles, south of Amarillo about 95 miles.

Not much there but flatland and cotton. I don't know how this guy grows cotton there, when I was a kid they had all but run out of irrigation water. The cotton was mostly dryland cotton.

Don't know about now, but at that time we were a dry county. Which meant no booze, including beer, could be sold in that county. If you wanted that, you had two choices: go to Plainview about 17 miles away and find a local bootlegger who would sell you some.  Or drive across the county line to a wet county and buy some there.

I remember when I turned 21, on a trip home from the Navy, I drove into a neighboring county which had a liquor store just across the county line. I showed my i.d. to prove I was 21 and bought a case of Coors beer. I'm tellin you what, I was crappin in tall cotton then boy! A case of beer and legal to boot!

Went back to Plainview and immediately started sharing with my friends, a few of whom were still under the legal age of drinking at that time. Was quite lucky that no law enforcement type wanted one.

Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Urges Protesters to Self-Quarantine for 14 Days Over Coronavirus Fears

You Think This is Real??

This is all over the place down here.  I don't know if I can believe this or not.  Riots begin at 4pm??

Who the hell plans this stuff?  Did you wake up at 6 this morning and say Lets go to Fresno and riot?? I never did.  I woke up at six and said Lets to the Bar!!!

Good Morning

After my Zoom meeting with my new employer today, I think I will meander over to the local sporting goods and see if they have any ammo mags in stock.  Even if I don't have that caliber, it might be good to have some for someone who needs them, if this summer progresses as it seems it might.

The jury is still out on whether I like the new company or not, been 3 weeks now.  Lots of zoom meetings.  They still let me do pretty much what I was doing with the old company, which is cool. Which means I stay home with my wife more than usual, as she is back on chemo.

They pay every 2 weeks, but my commission used to be calculated on a 30/31 day basis, so don't know how that is gonna work yet.
Hopefully, no glitches.

Gonna be a nice day here today, only supposed to get to 88°F today, compared to 103 or so last week.

You guys stay good.
