Can college guys change their own oil?

 Education College Scam

Go on over to Sector Ocho and read the post he made about college education and degrees. He is right on point.

Too much has been  made over the years about going to college.

Why?

The college won't exist and be able to function without people who know how to do plumbing, auto repair, etc.

For a long time I have held the opinion people who can use their hands well should get paid as much or more as doctors, lawyers etc.

  1. My stepson graduated at the top of his class. Dean's list, etc. I say he's book smart and world dumb. Can't change oil even after repeated demonstrations. His brother was a cutup and a poor student who after working for his father in law for two years bought his business, expanded it and is making an excellent living. They both have their strong points and I'm glad the first one is good at what he does and second is good at what he does. We can't all be good at everything. I can weld, repair, fix about whatever has been brought to the shop, but computers? I'm helpless.

  2. I agree with the author at Sector Ocho.

An easy fix would be to require colleges to publish "Truth in Lending" type information. Truth in Lending requires that credit cards and banks making loans tell the wanna-be borrowers how much they are going to end up paying over the life of the loan given the interest rate and minimum payments.

Colleges collect information about graduates, their jobs and pay rates. They should inform students STARTING a degree in a specific major what the average wages are for ALL students who start that major, not just the ones who graduate... That number should also comprehend the former students who are unemployed or out of the workforce.

  3. A book smart man can easily die from cold, dehydration and malnutrition in a home with no working heat, water lines or electricity. A street smart man will live comfortably wondering about the fate of the universe which he, too, cannot control.
