When I was working, once monthly I would have to drive from fresno calif to lompoc california. Approximately 200 miles or slightly under. When I lost the account at lompoc I still had to drive to santa maria, about 30 minutes from lompoc.

So anyway, when I read the book Going Home by A.American, where an EMP hit the usofa, and he had to walk home 150 miles or so, I thought to myself that I should do something like that. Make a Get Home Bag, that is.

So I bought a large backpack and filled it with stuff I thought I could use to help me get home if shtf. I am extremely glad I didn't have to try walking home. My bones would probably be bleaching alongside some road over there.

A few years back I thought I was gonna have to use it to stay overnight in my truck when there was a bad storm over there and all the roads home were closed by the chp. Fortunately I was able to drive about 80 miles northwest and take another road back to fresno. Slow driving cause everyone else had the same idea.

Now that I am retired, I have thought about bug out bags. But, my wife has health issues, and frankly, bugging out is not gonna work for us. And if we did bug out, where we gonna go? There are so many people living in this valley and in this state, that just ain't gonna work. So we are going to bug in.

Earthquake and the house falls down? Livin in the back yard. 

UN troops walkin down my road? Gettin out the AK and going to work. 

As I said, buggin in, whatever the consequences.

Daily Whine 6-30-22

 Once again I find myself shaking my head in wonder at awesomeness of people. And also muttering incoherently under my breath.

I want to replace a window air conditioning unit in a small house my daughter lives in. The windows are casement style, so the ac unit has to be narrow to fit in the window.

When I bought this unit almost 20 years ago now, I went to home depot and picked it up right off the shelf, they kept them in stock.

Not now, uh uh. Now you have to go to their website and pick out what you want. Then you have to create an account so you can order the damn thing. There was supposed to be a guest option but I couldn't find it.

Anyway I ordered the thing at the help desk at home depot, and got my receipt.

They sent me an email that said it was shipped and would be delivered yesterday. Couple days ago that got changed to today. 

Checked my email just now and had an email that said delivery is delayed till tomorrow.

So I checked fedex for tracking, and they say it is on the fedex truck for delivery. But the tracking bar still says shipped, but not out for delivery. So I got no clue when it will get here.

Whine over.

Daily Whine 6-29-22

 Here we go again.

Why can't people and stores in this country quit trying to screw people out of money. No question mark, a statement of fact.

Went to dollar general for some items, got 2 sixpacks of the original vienna sausage. I love those things.

Walking around I saw folgers coffee for 8.95. In what looks to be about halfsize container of what they used to be. I think it had 24 oz.

Underneath that is maxwell house in a 24 oz container for 6.50. So I put one in the cart.

Go down another aisle and there is a shelf full of maxwell house coffee. In a 30.6 oz container for 6.50. So I put the 24 oz. one back and take this one. At the checkout it said 7.15 for the can. WTF?

The clerk goes and looks. One shelf had 30.6 oz cans of coffee for 6.50. The shelf under that had 30.65 oz cans of coffee. For what price? None listed. So I didn't get either one, they pissed me off. I told them it was misleading. The clerk said thank you, have a nice day.

Daily whine over. For now. Maybe.

I stopped in at mcdonalds to grab a breakfast sandwich. I asked for the meal which is priced at $6.19. Then plus the damn sales tax at 8.7% and the bill should have come out to $6.73.

But it didn't. It came out to $7.02. 

I mean, that's only 29 cents, but it pissed me off. Because that isn't what I was expecting.

So I asked the lady why it was more. She then proceeded to not answer the question, and asked me what size coffee I wanted with the meal.

Whaddaya mean, what size coffee? I want what comes with the meal for $6.19.

You have a choice of small medium or large. I want what comes with the meal for $6.19.

I am going to try and sharpen a chainsaw. Wish me luck.

 I put a new chainsaw chain on my electric saw yesterday. I chose my electric saw rather than gas because I didn't want to listen to the noise. Then I used it to saw in half a pretty heavy block of pecan wood that came from a tree I had taken out last year.

I have been loading the blocks of pecan wood trunk into my wheelbarrow and hauling them to my pickup, and then haul them home to my house. 

But this one piece of trunk was just too damn heavy to move by myself and at the time I had no one who could help. After it was cut in half I easily loaded it up.

So I got the saw and started sawing. And it was going pretty doggone good too. But about halfway thru I heard what sounded like metal hitting metal and then the speed of sawing decreased significantly. 

Never found any metal in the wood, but the chain was definitely not as sharp as it was.

Now, I have never sharpened a chainsaw chain before, so I looked up a video on youtube and thought I would share with you. 

And no, I am not going to video myself and the process. That would be embarrasing to watch a nekkid overweight man trying to sharpen a saw.

Prepping Items

 I have started buying more stuff. Partly in an effort to beat inflation by having more tangible goods at lower prices than in the future, and partly just to have more stuff for teotwawki or shtf. Also just in case my finances take a turn for the worse.

Last week the lovely mrs. and I went to the local target and bought several hundred dollars of nonfood items.

Then I started thinking about gardening. So I ordered two more sets of seeds from amazon. I have 4 packages of them from last year. The seeds ordered this way are much less expensive than buying them individually. At least here locally they are.

My gas powered chainsaw has 4 spare chains I purchased last year. I am debating about purchasing another chainsaw of the same make and model. Any thoughts on that??

I have a 14" electric chainsaw I haven't used in a while, so I purchased two spare chains for that.

Last month I purchased quite a few handsqueeze flashlights. Squeeze the grip a few times and voila! You got light. Not very bright but you don't have to worry about running out of batteries. It's good enough to get around inside the home if your electric goes out. Especially if you got young eyes.

So, for the nonce that is what I am doing. Are you guys doing  any more prepping than usual?

Roe V. Wade Won’t Stop The Red Wave From Republicans 

You know what they say don't you? Opinions are like assholes, everybody is one. Has one. Not is one.

I do not agree with the opinion expressed by this article. 

My personal opinion is that this court decision will invigorate the extremist democrat party. This will cause them to get out the vote in november, in one way or another.

I don't know if more ACTUAL people will get out and vote, but there WILL BE more democrat votes. 

I don't know how they will accomplish this. But they laid a pretty good foundation for cheating in the 2020 election. They got some good lessons on how to improve, how to not get caught, how to buy off more of the media. And especially how to make any JUDGES not give a crap if any of them DID get caught and brought to court.

Buy off more of the media so the democrap narrative gets spread more than usual.

I think they also know better how to buy off the rinos. Little lindsey graham seems to me like he's a cheap date. mitt romney can be easily had, although probably not cheaply. Cocaine mitch. Well, nuff said about him. But the point is republicans won't stop the dems in november. They don't have the balls.

And the ones who do have the balls are not enough in number to be effective.

And something else is going on. These stupid motherfuckers are getting ready to arrest President Trump. And if that happens, the democrats will come out in force. But maybe so will true americans. And then all bets are off.

10 years ago a fresno city council member's annual salary was around 45 grand, give or take. I don't know the exact numbers. 

Then it went up to 60 grand or so.

Then 80 grand which is what it is now.

Now the city council has voted to raise their pay by 69%. 

That brings them up to about 130 grand or so. 

The average annual pay for fresno is about 55K.

If you are in a rural or semirural area I suggest you start thinking about farming. But not farming in the traditional sense. Think amish and people who farm without gas or diesel driven machinery.

If you got 1 acre, 2 acres  or 25 acres start preparing your land to grow food you can trade or sell to your neighbors. Start a community garden. Find an old building and repurpose it to be a barter center. 

You know what might be good in a barter center or a general store? Seeds. Lots and lots of seeds.

Find an old building and start buying old machinery and putting in the building to have it to sell when shtf or teotwaki or the trucks just stop.

Find some old farm machinery and rebuild it so it can be pulled by animals. Then start doing that. Maybe just on  the weekends at first.

The point is these goddamn cocksuckers have got us maneuvered into a place where we might not be able to get out of. 

Maybe a little forethought will help with that. Just a thought.

 In a shtf situation where you may have to travel with a long gun for safety, what is the best way to have that long gun laid out in the truck?

I am currently reading another post apocalytic fiction short novel, and the author has the characters placing the muzzle of the gun in the floor for quick access.

I am not sure that works for me. Seems to me the muzzle should be  pointed up so that when you grab it the muzzle can then easily be pointed right or left.

 I have let myself get too far out of shape.

I know it has been getting hotter lately, but i should be able to work more than two hours at a time before getting winded and unable to work.

My granddaughter Calliope helped me this morning. We drained a swamp cooler to let it dry out so we can spray some coating in the pan. We also went to the hardware store to buy some new cooler pads. Holy crap those things have gone up in price. A single 28" by 28" cooler pad was $10. I needed four.

She helped me get them off the roof so we could throw away the old pads much easier, as they were disintegrated. Then we installed the new pads and carried them back up to the roof. The pan should be dry by tomorrow and we can spray coat it. Also gonna have to redo the drain. 

While at the hardware store I looked at casement window operators. Again HOLY CRAP those things have gone up in price. They are $22 each! And I need ten of them.

After we got the cooler part done, Calliope walked home to her house which is right next door and I drove home. Where I promply laid down on the couch and slept for two hours.
