You just bought a truck.
2 years ago I rented a chrysler pacifica. I wanted to move it forward 2 feet. So i opened the door, sat down with one foot outside, put it in gear, and it immediately applied the brake and would not move. Because i had the door open.
You will own nothing and you will like it.
ReplyDeleteWell, in case of a rental, I can understand why the rental company would prefer to take steps that prevent any damage to their property. People are so used to operating their own vehicles, they assume the rental will be the same. Like why can't car companies decide where the wiper switch will be and use it for most / all vehicles ? I get in a different vehicle and have to hunt where the switch is and how it operates.
ReplyDeleteBut if that vehicle was MY car, I would feel differently. JMHO.
What happens if someone opens a door at thirty?
ReplyDeleteThe worst bit of auto-nannying IMO was a GMC we rented that with doors that would auto-lock when you took the minivan out of Park (good), but then auto-UNLOCK when you put it back in Park (VERY VERY BAD). We didn't rent it for long enough for me to see if that setting could be changed by the operator..
ReplyDeleteI got tired of my pickup not being able to be put in drive until I stepped on the brake pedal so I crawled under the dash and found the solenoid that controlled that and unhooked it. And that was on a 2006 pickup. I would be more than happy to get my old '73 Dodge two wheel drive with a 318 back. Reliable and easy to service.
ReplyDeleteMy 2024 Ram 2500 does the same, but if you then put it back into park and back into gear (without closing the door), the auto-brake lock does not reengage.
