Tomato recall affecting 3 states elevated to risk of death by FDA
Well crap. I like tomatoes. I try and grow some every year but my green thumb has changed colors.
I now only (try) to grow cherry tomatos in pots. I have 3 plants now that is plenty for me.
How does a tomato become contaminated with salmonella? Can't it be washed off? Hell I don't know.
I know all of the packing houses out here have to run their product thru a shower of water laced with chlorine to kill all the bad stuff. And yet still manage to miss some of the bad stuff and have recalls.
If I had to guess, the tomatoes are grown "organically", which means they used crap from pigs for fertilizer. A short dunk in a bleach and water solution would solve the problem, but most people just rinse their vegetables in water and take a chance. That, and there's no telling what the illegal that packaged the tomatoes was doing with their hands before they went to work.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they aren't the ones who wipe their backsides with their bare hand.
DeleteSouth of the border pickers that crap in the field.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that they used that famous pcr test thingy. or, maybe, just made it ALL up. 🤔
