It is None of the Governments Damned Business

New GM Patent Could Get Old, Dangerous Drivers Off The Road

Boy, talk about somethin that has the potential to be abused.

If I don't want my crazy neighbor Larry to be able to drive anymore I will secretly install this on his car. Then every night I will steal his car and drive like democrats do, and abracadabra presto chango his license will be gone.

I mean jesus h christ what the hell has happened to this country?

When the hell did we become so god damned involved with controlling what the hell everyone else does?

Covid lockdowns anyone?

  1. If we tested people properly for their ability to drive, then this would not be necessary. But too man people are driving that are a danger to themselves and others. (not just older people either)
While I don't like it any more than you do, that an automated system may keep us from being able to drive when we get older,, the reality is that as people get older they are dangerous behind the wheel.
    Driving is not a right.
In a just and real world, people would be tested and told not to drive long before such a device is necessary, but that is not politically correct, so we pander to the old people's voting block and don't get them off the road.

  2. occasionally an old person causes me a problem on the road but 90% of the daily problems i encounter are stupid young people or angry soccer mom's or angry/stupid drivers of a certain melanin content divided about evenly. just yesterday i was passing slower traffic, doing nearly 80, when a twenty something fella came flying up my butt. before i could complete the pass and get over he started weaving trying to get by, screaming bloody murder out the window at me all the while. wth is so important that he needs to risk his and several other's lives to get there ten seconds sooner?

  3. I understand the sentiment (and even logic) behind testing people, especially seniors, as we get older.

However, there needs to be a plan in place to ensure they can get things they need without driving if we're to remove their ability to get around conveniently. For example, in my town there are no cabs, no public transport, etc. How would people in my town get around to shop, visit doctors, etc. without their license? We do live in a town where golf carts are permitted on the streets, but not on the ones that go to the hospital, shopping center (where the grocery store is), etc. Wouldn't want those on the busy streets either.

    I don't have a solution, just wondering.

    1. And for those about to tell me - "WALK", for many that's not possible. You gonna tell my 85 year old neighbor to walk the 3 miles to the grocery store and carry all that stuff back?

  4. All I see is the oldsters won't be buying GM products. One of our locals , 88 yrs old, poor vision almost deaf is still driving 800 mile road trips. He hasn't had a drivers license in 6 years.

    1. And apparently has successfully navigated the roads without destruction, bloodshed, or falling afoul of gubbermint cash harvesting schemes. Carry on, sir.
