Help Me If You Can

I have an auto repair question. Maybe you guys can help.

My daughter has a 2015 ford escape. When she starts it, it runs normal with no unauthorized noises.

Put it in reverse, same thing no problem. Neutral is good.

But when it goes into drive it has a grumbling rumbling sound. I stood outside and listened to it, but it does not sound like the noise is coming from the transmission area. It's a sideways motor, trans is on driver side.

Couldn't tell for sure where the noise is coming from, except when I'm in the driver seat and put it in drive, it sounds to me like it's coming from directly under the gear shift.

If you have any good info please put it in the comments or email me at fredhorn37@ gmail.com

Thanks a bunch.

  1. Go to cargurus. com or just answers.com. Cargurus has quite a few questions and responses about noises and rumblings for various year Escapes. Good luck.

  2. Possible engine/trans mount groundout ,separation. If you load the engine against the brake does the noise change? Could also be the exhaust system contacting some other component. Should be relatively easy for competent tech to diagnose.

  3. My first thought is check the motor and tranny mounts.

  4. Does it have any active recalls? I've got 2016 Escape that I received a notice on. Haven't corrected it or researched it yet, but the notice said something about a bushing involving the shifter/trans that when it fails you may think it is in park, but it didn't really go into park. I need to dig that out. Might be related... might not. Haven't noticed that kind of noise on mine though.
