Auto Repair 101

This guy is right. This is how a 2 hour job turns into a 2 day job. I've had a few of those, they weren't fun.

  1. And that's why I quit working on cars and trucks. Twenty years ASE master certified and I can tell you that the engineering went to hell about '95'. I own a 2000 Silverado 2500 that is dying slowly off neglect. I'll replace it with something older when it dies. I won't buy anything newer than 95. Wife's current car is an 04 Camry she got for free from my sister. I paid a couple of hundred bucks for this truck six years ago. When these get replaced it'll be with something older because of crap like that for escape. Morning is designed to be repaired anymore. It's all designed to be tossed and replaced. I'm done with the soapbox.

  2. I completely understand FredLewers post, and empathize. Now, in the video, why TF is the brake caliper hanging from the hose, and not suspended on a support? How do you put a bolt into a hole smaller than the bolt? That neat trick sure would have been helpful a few times. Maybe someone didn't have their impact set to loosen? I'm also curious how the axle threads actually got that FUBAR.
Truly, though, the manufacturers must be paying people to come up with the most asinine ways to assemble, with the intention of denying anyone the ability to DIY.

  3. I liked it when it only took one person, with knowledge, one weekend to pull a 350, change out the crank, and cam, and be driving it by Monday.
