DIY Solar Food Dehydrator Plans
Gardening time is once again here. Many people like to preserve the food they grow, so to that end I found these plans for a solar dehydrator.
The article says cost is about $300, but I think that is probably a low estimate.
I am not going to build one. But I am going to consider something like this for space heating. Add a fan, some concrete mass, small solar panel, you could maybe help heat your home in winter.
In old times, campers would lay out food on the dashboard and rear window shelf before leaving on their tramp. After a couple of days, the food would be ready to go. Probably doesn't work well with meat, especially if bear are around to sniff it out.
ReplyDeleteI built this model several years ago with two sheets of plywood, some scrap 2 X 4's, small piece of roofing sheet metal, small wheels, threaded stock axel and flat black paint. Plexiglass and tin foil also.
ReplyDeleteDecidedly much cheaper than $300 and temps were in the 160 degree range on a sunny day. EJ.
