How Much Propane Is Actually In Those Exchange Rack Cylinders?

Does anyone out there use a level gauge of some sort on your tanks? If so, how do you like it?

  1. They claim 15 pounds. But for the same price, I take them to a local propane supplier and get them filled to 20.

  2. Years ago, while out of town on a project, we filled some large propane cylinders at the only local facility. They stopped providing gas, but the tanks were still heavy with liquid. We ended up draining the tanks, which were contaminated with salt water.

At one time, I was licensed in Texas for constructing any size LPG facility. The regulations are strict, filling of containers requires certified scales, and those that don't follow the regulations are fined when caught. Unfortunately, many don't get caught.

  4. For the "convenience" of a fast exchange you are getting ripped off by
the propane company. As long as you understand this fact its a choice. Most people are unaware of this rip off. Thus it's fraud.

idk, but after i bought my own tanks i stopped having issues with my gas appliances. so much so that i dropped off several full tanks rather than risk clogging up my stuff.

  7. Also you are not sure of what else you are buying when you get propane for those places. I have my own tanks and I weigh them before I have them filled and after. I always insist they bleed the valve during filling to allow any air trapped. Some places will not do that and I will do it myself, always have a screwdriver handy. I had a couple places say I couldn't do that and grabbed up my tank and told them to fuck off and die in an explosion...
