My Search for an Older Truck Has Come to an End
I have been looking for an older pickup, say 1995 or older.
Jesus Christ, these things are expensive.
Check this out on this 1995 Silverado with 73000 miles:
The price for this lovely vehicle is $12,200! HOLY SHIT!
This one is not quite as bad, a 1976 Chevy Cheyenne:
The price for this lovely piece of Americana is $5500!So, I have decided I will keep the two pickups I have instead of selling them. Now I know certain people do not like Dodge, but I have had several of them and I love them.
I have a 1999 Dodge Dakota club cab, and it has 343,000 miles on it with original 3.9l v6 motor and transmission. No performance issues at this time. I had it up for sale for 2500. Now that price is based upon what I have been seeing on craigslist and facebook marketplace. I had several offers. The best offer I had was 2000, which I agreed to. But then the asshole immediately changed the offer to 1800, so I told them to pound sand.
I also have a 2003 Dodge Dakota 4 door 4.7l v8, with 4x4, at 273,000 miles with original motor and transmission. It still runs pretty good and gets about 15 mpg.
So, my search for an older pickup has come to a halt.
But, I will keep my eyes and ears open for something, you never know what may show up.

Car Work
Worked on my granddaughters Acura this morning with my grandson. I am glad he is mechanically capable of working on vehicles. If I can keep him focused on learning, he is going to be a very good shadetree mechanic. And with all of the damn technology in cars today that is going to be a valuable skill to have going forward.
My son in law had to leave for work before we showed up, but he got part of it done before he left to go to work. Believe it or not, to get to the damn alternator, he had to unbolt the power steering pump to access it! And to get it out of the car, we had to remove one of the cooling fans.
Sunday her car said check the charging system and she just barely made it to a parking lot. Her dad showed up and jump started it with cables, and then I came in. I used my 10 year old Klein multitester I paid $50 bucks for 10 years ago, and her battery only had 11 volts while running and still had the jumper cables hooked up.
And man those jumper cables were hot as hell, I burned my hand on them they were hot!
And then the damn multitester quit on me! I was hot enough to combust so I threw that thing as far as I could. Now I have a $7 harbor freight multitester.
Anyway the alternator was bad. Grandson got a new one at his workstore of O'Reilly's Auto and we got it put on finally. It took both of us to get the serpentine belt back on. Whoever designed these cars must have been smaller than a midget. My arms are small and I had a hell of a time getting into things.
I had to lay on the ground under the car, after we raised it, so I could hold the belt on the two lowest pulleys then my grandson was able to thread it back on the other 3 pulleys.
But the new alternator worked. Yay!

A Groaner for Tuesday
Tired of being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, Bill decided to solve both of his problems. He took out a large insurance policy on his wife, making himself the beneficiary, and then hired an underworld figure to kill her. The killer, let’s call him “Artie,” explained that his price was $5,000. Bill said he was more than happy to pay that much but he would have to use the money from his wife’s insurance policy. Artie insisted on a down payment in cash, so Bill opened his wallet and showed Artie the single, lonely dollar bill inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept the down payment. Artie followed Bill’s wife to the local grocery, surprised her in the produce department and strangled her. As she slumped to the floor, the produce manager happened upon the scene. Not wanting to leave a witness, Artie had no choice but to strangle him too. But the entire proceeding was captured on video by the store’s security system, the police were summoned, and Artie was arrested leaving the building. Questioned by the police, Artie revealed the sordid plan, including his financial arrangements with the hapless Bill. Which is why, the next day’s newspaper headline declared, “Artie Chokes Two for a Dollar at Safeway!”

Newsom Signs Executive Order Aimed at Alleviating Port Congestion
Our asshole governor newsom has signed an executive order to help alleviate the shipping container backlog.
Part of this order lifts some weight restrictions. Wonder how this will play out on our roads? Which happen to be the worst in the country already.
Who knows if this will help or not, but all he cares about is the optics. When he runs for prez he will pull this out of his ass and say how he singlehandedly saved the shipping container day.
