Elon Musk tells Tesla staff: return to office or leave
I have never worked in an office setting. I don't know how I would act in such a situation. I much prefer being out in the field, rather than tied down to one location.
If I were in the office, I would probably want to work from home. Just like lots of these guys. Ole Elon may be making a mistake here.
I understand your sentiments very well. I spent years working in the field. These days, I work in an office, and do work from home. I manage people that do both as well. Working from home presents productivity challenges that we (the big collective WE) still haven't figured out. It's very difficult to get the same level of productivity from (most) people working from home. I think Elon has identified a problem - but the culture of a large portion of the office working population may have already changed. Tough spot.
ReplyDeleteTough spot. I agree. I totally understand about working from home, makes life a lot simpler.
DeleteThis might be his way to reduce staff. Get them to voluntarily quit instead of going back to the office.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's where he will get money to buy twitter.
DeleteMy former employer opened a branch office in a town 150 miles away. They hired local folks to work, basically unsupervised by the owners. One day, for whatever reason, one of the owners called the new branch office, and got no answer. They tried several times with same result. The boss decided to drive up and do a surprise visit, to find out that the store was locked, and no one was there. He called a meeting at the branch office the next day, and drove up for the meeting. The employees, none the wiser, were there for the meeting. He subsequently fired everyone on the spot; had severance checks at the ready. Some had the audacity to challenge and file for unemployment..
ReplyDeleteGaming the system. The human race appears to be the same as it ever was.
