Things don't add up. A city police dept. has no jurisdiction over a Sheriff. The Sheriff holds more powers than, and is superior to, a DA. A Sheriff in a neighboring county has no jurisdiction. (The neighboring county is Taos.)
You are correct, the County Sheriff *is* the Law in his County, and can even tell the Feds to go pound sand. Note that they brought a SWAT team to "enforce" the arrest. Fur gonna fly...

I wondered about that. They kept talking about magistrate court and district court, maybe thats the reason they could do it. Don't know.
