Here locally from 11am to 2pm is a talk show. The host today was discussing the container and shipping problems.
One of the people who called in said his company had 3 containers he needed to pick up since wednesday 9 days ago. He has 3 truck drivers sitting idle at the place waiting on the containers, and he has to pay those 3 drivers for each day they wait.
Every time they call, they say the containers have not been released yet. With no explanation forthcoming about why they haven't been released.
But here is the kicker. Those containers are required to be removed within 3 days or 72 hours. And here it has been 9 days. The guy said he is being charged $900 daily for "demurrage" fees. Which I guess means storage after the time they supposed to be gone.
And we wonder why prices are so high.
