When I went to Michigan in June, we rented a mini van. We got a Chrysler Pacifica. We need to move forward slightly to open the rear gate to load some luggage. I got in, left the driver door open, started the vehicle and put it in drive, but it would NOT move forward. The damn thing apparently applied the brake to the front wheel. Until I closed the door the damn thing would NOT go. Now that is just plain stupid.
Cars, like most things these days, are designed for the lowest common denominator...the stupidest person who might use it.
ReplyDeleteI certainly felt stupid when I realized I had to shut the door to make the thing go.
DeleteIf someone can imagine a scenario where an idiot needs protected from himself and can design a system to accomplish it ,they can get a government mandate to include it. Increase sales price, complexity, and make them take it to the dealer, again.
ReplyDeleteI always hated to have to push on the brake to put my pickup in gear so I rooted around under the dash until I found the wire going from the brake to the solenoid that controls that and disconnected the plug. Now I can simply put the pickup in drive or reverse and go.
