Egg prices are expected to soar

I don't know if this is the reason, but eggs are goddamn expensive right now.
At Dollar General here in the little burg I live in, eggs are $5.75 dozen for aa.
What are the prices at your location?

  1. Last time I checked, a dozen jumbos was at the $3.50 price. But its been at least two weeks since I been there - it may have changed.

  2. We keep our own hens. End up giving a lot of eggs away. It’s surprising how easy and legal it is to keep hens in suburbia.

    1. Yup. Most suburbs will allow up to a certain number of hens, but usually won't allow roosters. For those contemplating keeping hens, know that they're easy as hell to keep, and will eat just about anything you put in front of them! "Pigs with wings," I call them. They'll eat table scraps, as well as any "kitchen compost," such as that stuff that rots in the "crisper." And yes, they'll eat chicken...

  4. There's another huge outbreak of bird flu in northern California. One rancher said he had to put down over 500K birds.

Not sure how much eggs cost these days. I keep my own hens. I do know, however, that I'm having no problems at all selling my surplus for $7.00 for an 18-pak.

  5. We are still in the $2.95 range. Love living in small towns in the middle. Nothing happens here that ever looks like the east & west coast. No looting, riots and maybe 1/2 murders a year.

  6. 6.00 dozen from local women who raises a variety of birds. Lots of double yolks. Felt bad as the Gov. killed her flock two years ago because of bird flu.
