If you use Christy's Red Hot Blue Glue PVC Pipe Cement, this is NOT going to work! It literally WELDS the pieces together. Heating the thing is NOT going to get it to separate. That being said, the trick I use is to leave about 2" of pipe on the fitting I'm saving. That way, all I need to re-use the fitting is two straight joiners. Yeah, I'm using some new stuff, but those joiners are A LOT cheaper than buying some of the other fittings, such as that elbow being shown. I usually do this when I save a piece made up of several fittings, such as a riser with a tee on the bottom, a section of pipe, and then a fitting threaded for a hose bib at the top. I cut the thing out leaving about 2" on either side of the tee, leaving the rest of the assembly alone.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried that trick before. I would be leery of it working.
