Tight lugnuts are a problem.

One time when I was very much younger, say about 10 or 12 years old, my mom and I had to drive to my dads boss house to fill up some buckets with water. Cause the water at our place was out, I don't remember why. We drove thru the dormant fields to get there. On the way back one of the tires blew, so I sprang into action. Jacked up the car, got the tire iron out and loosened the lug nuts. Only the nuts wouldn't loosen. I used my foot on one side and my arms on the other, and the tire iron actually bent. My mom tried to loosen the lugnuts and she had no success either. So an hour or so later my dad and older brother come looking for us. They were able to loosen the lugnuts with no problem. I was embarrassed.

  1. It wouldn't have happened to be left hand threaded lug nuts on the left side of the vehicle, did it? This was a fairly common practice on certain brands of vehicles all the way up into the 80s. If you didn't know they were left handed, all you would do was tighten them instead of loosening them.

    1. No, normal threads. But I do know what you are talking about. Those were weird.

  2. Wrench at local tire shop, sez they tighten to 100 ft. pounds. I carry an antique 25 ton screw jack ... NO hydraulics! And a two foot breaker bar. A 200 psi 12v inflator. AND a diy tire plug kit.

    1. My harbor freight 200 psi inflator bit the bullet. Got to find a better brand.

  3. At my age Tight Nuts are the reason I thank God for inventing the American Automobile Association. Those Tight Nuts I had as a 20year old I took care of myself

  4. Now a days, I carry my 20 volt DeWalt 1/2" impact driver with the proper lug nut socket in my truck. Lug nuts are no problem for me.

    1. I carry a 2 foot breaker bar with 2 size of sockets. One for the normal lugnut and one for when the chrome falls off and it becomes an 18mm instead of 19mm.
