The vegetable products we buy at the stores have probably been rinsed with chlorine at one point or another.

I used to go to a Dole facility in Oxnard. They processed lettuce. They had this truck trailer sized box that boxes of heads of lettuce would be placed in. Then they would turn on the pumps and that would spray chlorine laden water over the lettuce. They would do that for approximately 1/2 hour(I think. It has been so long I forget the time frame.) Might have been an hour or longer. I remember it was a four hour drive one way for me to get there. I left home at 4 am one morning, when I got to bakersfield about 90 minutes later, I said eff it and pulled into a carls junior parking lot and slept till 8 then got back on my way.

But the ppm of chlorine in the water was about 50 if I remember correctly. Theoretically the chlorine would kill all the ecoli and other stuff that might be on the lettuce. But I can see how some of the heads might get little soaking due to the way they did it.

Anyway, probably shouldn't rely too much on the veggies being clean when we get them.

I suspect that the best technology suited to this might be a charcoal filter followed by reverse osmosis. But I don't know that for certain. I believe that if you are going to do something like this you will probably need a buttload of charcoal and numerous R/O filters.

My wife and I stopped at our local high dollar grocery store monday. I call it high dollar because prices there are always higher than large chain grocery stores. But, this store is much more convenient if you don't want to drive 20 miles to a lower priced facility. For 2 or 3 or 4 items this store is okay.

Anyway, we stopped at the deli and the meat section, and I got a bit of a surprise on the pricing. Prices have risen significantly since my last visit to that store.

A pound of beef bologna was 8.99. A pound of roast beef lunch meat was 11.10.

Steaks. Bone in ribeye steaks were expensive. The one I remember was labeled 1.355  pounds, and was almost 16 for the steak.

So if they would quit quarantining people if they would quit firing unvaccinated workers and then let them come back to work because they are shorthanded and even if they are sick and contagious with flurona covid crap, if the whole world would quit locking down and just live their normal goddamn life, this supply chain shit would take care of itself.

N95 Masks

 Bottom Line: How to Disinfect N95/KN95 Masks Leaving masks out to dry should disinfect them from COVID-19, SARS, and influenza A in under 48 hours. 72 hours would be even more conservative.

Back at the beginning of all of covid hysteria bullshit I ordered some N95 and N99 masks. I distributed some to my family and we kept some.

We still have all of them because we just never wore masks. When we absolutely had to we wore those little blue paper masks. Like when we went to the doc. And those assholes were fanatically religious in making sure you wore your mask properly. But now, not so much.

Anyway with all the hysteria regarding omicron going on, I think I have noticed a resurgence in the recommendation to use N95 masks.

Along with that I hear tptb say use a new mask daily.

Well just where you supposed to get those new masks? There is a shortage of them again.

So in light of that I found some articles that say these masks can be cleaned and reused.

All of them seem to be in agreement though, that the best thing to do is let them air dry for about 3-4 days, then rewear them.

Supply Chain

 Me and the lovely Mrs. went to target store this afternoon to stock up on some canned goods and other items for the upcoming conflagration. I fugure to have a barbecue going while rome burns, kinda like nero.

So while there i was looking around to see if there were any empty shelves.

Surprisingly there were very few empty spots anywhere in the grocery store section of target store. 

One other thing that kind of surprised me was the store had no pinto beans. I take that back, I think there were 4 cans of pinto beans. Couldn't find any ranch style beans, no pork and beans, there were plenty of green beans.

Soups were fully stocked. But another surprise there. The cans were $1.79 each, but they were about twice as big as normal. Can't figure that one out.

Folgers classic roast coffee was $7.59 a can. So with prices expected  to rise again soon I bought two cans. I mean, can't go without coffee, amiright???

A Recycled Joke

Signing Bonus

I joined the navy in 1970. My agreement with them at the time was that I joined for 4 years and at the end of four I would extend that enlistment by 2 years with a guaranteed bonus of $3500. At least I think it was that amount, somewhere in that range.

About 1 year before I had to resign up congress said fuck you none of you are getting your bonus. Came time to re-sign up and I said no, they said okay you're going to federal prison. That wasn't exactly what they said, I can't remember that far back. But I do remember that was the impression I was left wiff. So, well shit, in that case I signed. 

Then the whole of the navy that was affected by that filed a class action lawsuit, and about 2 years after I got out, I received my money from the government.

Took about 4 years for the federal gov't to honor their commitment for that paltry sum. Wonder if they're paying cash up front this time?

I mean jesus h christ, take some personal responsibility. Start taking vitamin c, vitamin d, calcium magnesium and zinc, go get some quercetin. Exercise, eat healthy. And by healthy I mean eat what you want in moderation. Go get a 7th grade health class textbook from Texas in the 1950's and 1960's and it will tell you every thing you need to know about how to stay healthy.

Wash your hands regularly, go outside every day, walk around.

And then, if you get sick, go visit your doctor if you need to. Don't use the emergency room as your personal physician, that isn't what they are for.

It seems to me that maybe that is part of what is wrong with this country, is the language used in court and legal documents. 

If I was president maybe I would make an executive order that says all courts have to use language and writing that is completely clear, and explicit, to morons like me.

I am not real certain why that is. The article says democrats are running scared. I don't believe that for one second. Democruts have not been scared of repubs in a very long time. Decades, surely, maybe even a century.

I know democruts are reading the writing on the wall, and see that probably a redwave will happen this november. Maybe.

This story is about a michigan democrat who has been in office for 30 years. 30 years!!!! Each term is 2 years long and she has been there for 15 terms!!!

Add up the number of reps and senates who have been in office for 30 years or more and you get a shitton of people who should be fired from office, both repub and demo. 

Term limits! Term limits is the answer! But, you say, then I can't vote for who I want in the office! Yes you can, you just can't vote for someone not on the ticket. These people have been in office for this long and JUST LOOK at how fucked up this country is. I don't want those assholes in office anymore! Throw the bums out!

How many more days, weeks, months, years, or decades will centralized engergy delivery to our homes be feasible?

The article I linked to talks about how wind and solar in alberta canada delivered 76 mw in the middle of the day while coal was delivering 302 mw all day long. 

And they were shutting that coal plant down that day, in the middle of the coldest weather they have had.

Centralized energy delivery is not a good way to do it in my opinion. But currently it is the best way. 

I have two small solar/battery systems for my place to help in case of loss of power. I am thinking of how I can install a generator to my breaker box and run it in place of PG&E electricity. The mechanics of it are fairly easy, but I need to fix it so the generator won't be noisy enough to be heard nextdoor, which could generate complaints.

I also have not checked run time versus gasoline consumption. That could be a giant issue. 

So once again I am recommending each of you evaluate your energy systems at your home. If power shuts off do you have some way of supplying emergency power temporarily? 

If not, do you have means to temporarily provide  lighting, cooking, heat, etc for 2 or 3 days while power is being restored.

Something to think about.
