Yeah. And sometimes, IRS makes an error telling us we still owe money after we payed the tax. This past year, they contacted us, telling us we owed the same amount. Luckily, our accountant told us to pay with U.S. Postal Service certified money order, with the signature required service charge. I took copies of this before sending in, as well as IRS confirmation receipt.
A little extra charge, yes, but don't screw with the IRS. They can make your life miserable.
They do not have to pay for their mistakes, we do. I always send my return with signature required. This year it took 6 months for them to return my overpayment.
