How to Seal Foods Air-Free Without a Vacuum Sealer

I purchased some mylar bags, but i have not purchased a heat sealer.
Seems to me ziploc bags should work just as well as mylar.
I think I might give this a try.

  1. Just buy the damn sealer, this is nonsense.

    1. It isn't nonsense. Looks like it works well to me.

  2. Damn sight cheaper than a Food Saver with all the bags and other necessities to make it work.
We used to take teeny bags, place them in a phone book with the edge barely hanging out between the center pages, and put a match or lighter to the edge, and melt it sealed.
Using a gallon freezer Zip, one would only need "part" of a phone book, or something to hold the edge sealed, while torching the edge. Does that makes sense? It could work with some experimentation.

    1. I think I'm gonna give this a shot and see how it works. I can't dance so I might as well try food preservation.

    2. This does NOT vacuum seal, the regular ziplock bags do NOT keep air out and it is a waste of water but hey, have fun! And when you're throwing out the food that you "sealed" using this NONSENSE method don't say I didn't warn you.
